In recent memory, the island province of Sulu has not been so fortunate in attracting visitors of the tourist variety. Credit this mainly to what is shown in nightly news that primarily focuses on the dangers brought about by the insurgency in the Southern Philippines.
It's a shame since Quezon Beach, probably the most famous beach in Sulu, is simply breathtaking and bares a resemblance to Boracay before tourism development overtook the famous island .
This white sand beach is located in Patikul, a town 20-25 minutes by road from the provincial capital of Jolo. It has really fine white powder-like sand, pristine all-natural surroundings.
Jolo, Sulu has a lot to offer than just bombings and rampant kidnappings. In different circumstances, this place is a tropical paradise. I love the place so much, love the people and not to mention I love the abundance of seafood.
This province should be included in the list of the most incredible beaches in the Philippines. The government, and not only the people around Quezon Beach, should conserve and protect this treasure for the tourism industry as well as for the sake of changing the sad image of Jolo, Sulu.
Hopefully someday, Sulu will take its rightful place among our island destinations.
