The blockhouse is believed to have been built by Fray Julian Bermejo on 1808 and is the main fortress on the church complex’s fortification. This stone structure is a large quadrangular house made of coral stonewalls and tile roofs. In some report, the wall is at least 1 meter thick. Its four corners were reinforced with loopholes. It was described by townspeople in earlier times as “dakong balay”. Today the blockhouse serves as the bell tower. It rises high over the Rizal Park and Municipal hall.
