Victorias City is not just sugar. There is also another beautiful spot that one can visit... and pray.

The Church of Saint Joseph the Worker, popularly known as the Church of the Angry Christ, is an artistic landmark in Victorias City. The chapel is located at the Victorias Milling Company (VMC) compound, Victorias City, Negros Occidental.

"Church of the Angry Christ" is called as such because of the mural with vivid colors and striking art strokes.

VMC is the biggest integrated sugar mill and refinery in the country and also in the world. The 7000++ hectare compound is a self-contained agro-industrial complex. At the heart of the compound, you will find the world famous St. Joseph the Worker Church that features the "Angry Christ" mural in psychedelic colors and the only church in Negros that depicts Filipino liturgical arts. There are tours that run from Tuesday to Friday only, should you like to visit the place.

There's still much to explore. So when in Victorias City, drop by this church and be amaze of the artworks.

How to Get There

From Manila, you can fly to Bacolod (Php2500++, round trip, 45 minutes). From Bacolod-Silay Airport, you can take a shuttle (Php75-100 per head) going to the city proper or to the Bacolod North Bus Terminal. You can also take a cab from the airport but this is a bit expensive (Php400++).

Victorias City can be reached in 40-45 minutes from Bacolod City either by private car or public utility vehicles plying northern Negros. Bus trip starts as early as 5:00am until 9:00pm. After dropping off at VMC, take a tricycle and asked to be taken to the church or chapel.
