The town of Tongonan is an hour away from Ormoc City. You can find a guitar-shaped lake in the town and a place I still vividly remember seeing for the very first time.
I could not believe the beauty of the experince- from the pleasant drive on the flower-lined roads- thing I never see in the city. There were flowers that looked like Christmas bells hanging outside nipa huts. It’s so unfortunate I was not able to shoot photos.
Lake Danao was actually known as “Lake Imelda” during the time of President Marcos but the area was later renamed the "Lake Danao National Park".
The park is volcanic in origin and is probably a graben or a depression produced by the Leyte Central Fault, an active fault traversing the lake area in a north-south direction. It is also interesting to note that the lake is a habitat of giant eels and a haven for endemic flora and fauna. The protected forest has maintained a thick foliage.
A visitor to Lake Danao is not only provided a picture perfect view of nature but an ambiance that would erase stress and worries. It is also a trip away from the familiar to a place you would love to call "home".
