Ursula Island Game Refuge and Bird Sanctuary is 250km away from Puerto Princesa City. You can reach this islet in the south thru 6hours of jeepney ride and an hour boat ride from Rio Tuba, Bataraza.
This 17hectares island is surrounded by clear turquoise water and fine white sand. Ursula Island also features giant century old trees, numerous trails to wells dug in the interior and some small nipa huts.
Declared a bird sanctuary, the best time to go to Ursula Island is 2 hours before the sun sets since this is the time that almost all species of birds culminate after a tiring day of flight. This island is known for the large concentrations of imperial pigeons that roast there, including numbers of the threatened grey Imperial-pigeons.
It has been promoted in the past as an ecotourism destination but the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) has ordered a temporary closure of the sanctuary from visitors so as to give time for the birds to recuperate and for the PAMB to adopt necessary measures in order to fully protect the whole island while various exposure activities is on going.
