Hey there! You gotta check this out. A zoo in Maasin City? Wow, that’s great!

While I was surfing the net, I got across this picture of green and yellow background which had the letters “ Maasin Zoo”. It immediately caught my attention so I clicked on the picture and it led me to the article of the Leyte- Samar Daily Express.

I found out that the official name of the zoo is Maasin City Nature and Wildlife Conservation Park. You will see ostriches, camels, tigers and many other exotic animals there. During its soft opening on April 26, 2012, many people and media men flocked to the site to take pictures and to see for themselves this one of a kind zoo.

The zoo is situated in a 25-hectare lot inside the 320-hectare Maasin City Forest Park in Sitio Danao, Barangay Malapoc Norte, Maasin City, located 13 km away from the city proper with an elevation of 250-360 meters above sea level (LSDE). I also read that the zoo also takes care of endangered animals like the Philippine Tarsier and the Philippine Eagle. There is also collection or display of crocodiles, birds, mini-horses, cockatoos, parrots, pigeons, monkeys, pheasants and many more animals that will bring delight to your eyes especially for those animal lovers.

Not only that, it was said that the management of the zoo will be putting up an area for horse-back riding, camel riding, and mini-horse riding and a boating area in a man-made lake. Wow. That really is a good news for those who have a knack for adventure and fun in riding animals. The zoo is also open for elementary and high school students in Eastern Visayas. That’s awesome to know because students can also visit the zoo during their field trips and appreciate the animals that they will see in the Maasin City Zoo.

I don’t have official information on how much is the rate of the entrance fee. Some said it’s P100 for students and P200 for adults. The official opening of the Zoo was scheduled on May 15 of this year, so maybe the rates are already fixed now.

I can precisely say that Maasin is now a developing city. I won’t wonder if one day it becomes renowned not only in the Philippines but also abroad.

So what are we waiting for? Pack up now, Bring your camera. And let’s go altogether to Maasin City Zoo, the place that’s fit for animal lovers like YOU. :)
