You probably have tasted some of the best varieties of coffee now sold in the market. There’s the famous cappuccino, the aromatic espresso and so many other varieties but have you ever tasted a coffee that came from a poop? Shocked?

          I too, got shocked when I heard that there’s a coffee flavor obtained from a poop. It’s called Kapeng Alamid. This variety of coffee is obtained from the excretion of Alamid or the Philipppine Civet Cat, endemic in the Cordillera Region, hence the name of the variety. The civet cat eats only the ripest coffee berry and during digestion enzymes digest only the flesh of the berry leaving the bean behind. The enzymes will then ferment the bean providing the civet coffee its distinct and esteemed aroma and flavor. Then the civet cat will excrete its stool in the forest floor and farmers will then harvest these stools and process it. This coffee is sold for a smuch as $100 a cup around the world! For a coffee it’s quite expensive but the process of harvesting this one of a kind coffee begs to justify its price tag. This coffee variety is usually served in hotels or in an exclusive banquet.
