“When we say painting you are dealing with colors, so when I deal with colors I always use happy and attractive colors,” Sir Nel Zabala said.

One sunny afternoon, while preparing my breakfast, I remember I was about to have my interview with one of the most respected artists of today.

Mr. Cornelio Zabala or Sir Nel as what everyone calls him is known for his prominence in the world of art.  He was born on February 2, 1954 in Telegrafo, Tolosa,Leyte but stayed and grown up in the place of La Paz. He is a graduate of BS Fine Arts in FEATI University, Manila.

Sir Nel was inspired by his childhood ambition that in the future he can paint and create wonderful paintings. So with the help of his father Sir Zabala indeed became a victorious multi-talented artist not just here in the Philippines but internationally.

“I have no secret to success. My success is I keep on practicing, research and implementation. I read magazines, art books to be updated of the current trends in arts and I applied it in my artwork,” sir Zabala explained.

Pursuing the life of an artist has never been easy but what made him this far is the fact that he paints with meaning and purpose. According to him when he paints he considers three things: First, he is the artist working on his art piece; second, he acted as a critic; and third, he considers himself as an art collector.

If there’s one thing that sets Sir Zabala’s works from the others in the world of art is how he masters this kind of work and how he put his heart in his artworks that truly captivate ones attention.

At present, Sir Zabala works not just an ordinary artist but a multi-talented man. God truly blessed this person not only with special talent and skills but with a good heart who is always ready to impart his knowledge in art.
