Pasig river is one of the major rivers in the Philippine Territory. It is commonly known as Ilog Pasig by most Flilipinos. It connects the two biggest bays in the country which are the Laguna de Bay and Manila Bay and is in lined in Metro Manila. The river has been used as an important transport in Manila.
However, due to industrial development and negligence of some people, Pasig has lost its beauty and has become polluted. The river was considered dead by ecologist to the situation it has become.
Now, Filipinos are called to be one in the rehabilitation of the river that was once a tourist attraction and important transport. An annual activity headed by the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) is being done for the rehabilitation of the river. One of the successful fund raising projects of PRRC was the Piso para sa Pasig camapaign together with the Clean and Green Foundation.
Another fund raising project for the rehabilitation of the river, it is an annual advocacy run organized by the Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig of ABS-CBN Foundation, headed by Ms. Gina Lopez. The Run for Pasig River is will be held on the 30th of September, 2012 where there will be three categories: 5k, 15k, and ride and roll, in the Quezon City Memorial Circle. Everyone is invited to participate in this said event. The proceeds of this fun run will be intended for the improvement of the esteros near the Pasig River.
Filipinos will be at hand to help our country become a better nation not just through the beautification of our environment. This event is another call for all to be one for Pasig River. A proof how united we Filipinos are.
Let us always protect mother nature!
