“Mother Robin” or “Ibu Robin” is a Filipino-American is a midwife and founder of Yayasan Bumi Sehat (Healthy Mother Earth Foundation) health clinics, which offer free prenatal care, birthing services and medical aid to anyone who needs it. She and her team have been working since 2003 to combat Indonesia's high maternal and infant mortality rates. She was awarded the 2011 CNN Hero of the Year award by the CNN news network for helping thousands of low-income women in Indonesia with healthy pregnancy and birth services.
2. Maria Aragon
This talented ten-year old singer from Manitoba, Canada of Filipino descent gained fame after a YouTube video of her performing Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" went viral. She has since appeared onstage with Lady Gaga, performed at the Ellen Degeneres show and has appeared in an HTC commercial.
3. Manny Pacquiao
Despite doubts over his last victory, Congressman Pacquiao is still the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer unless someone convincingly beats him and even then his legacy in the annals of the sport is already secured. 4. Shamcey Supsup
A rare combination of beauty and brains is this Filipina beauty titleholder who represented the Philippines in the Miss Universe 2011 pageant, in which she was declared third runner-up. She also topped the Architecture Licensure Examination in July 2009. The statuesque Bukidnon native graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines.
5. Philippine Dragon Boat Team
Overcoming the lack, nay, the absence of support and bitter sports politics, the Philippine Dragon Boat Team claimed victory in the 500-meter Open Standard category in the Taiwan International Dragon Boat championship in June and in August finished 1st place in the 1,000-meter men's event at the Dragon Boat World Championships in Tampa, Florida.
6. Pinoy iBus Inventors
After a long, arduous eight years of self-funded research and project, Elma Arboleras and co-inventor Rodel de Guzman received a reward they did not expect. Her invention, dubbed as the iBUS won a gold medal for the consumer category at the 11th British Invention Show.
7. Yen Baet
Yen, a full-time photographer currently based in England, shot a “Rainy Night in Hallstatt” two years ago during a wet and cold autumn day in Austria. The photo was her entry to the National Geographic Exceptional Experience Photo Contest where it took the Grand Prize.
8. Ronald Ventura
Ronald Ventura is most probably the top-selling Filipino artist for 2011 after his painting sold for P46.995 million at the Sotheby’s Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings. The UST Fine Arts graduate is the current holder of the auction record for contemporary Southeast Asian artwork.
9. The Philippine National Football Team
Once virtual unknowns even in their own native land, the Azkals have made football actually exciting in the basketball-crazy Philippines and for good reason- the team improved by eight places in the FIFA World Rankings and were awarded the AFF Suzuki Cup Fair Play.
10. Danica Magpantay
She has what it takes to be the 2011 Ford Super Model of the World, Danica Magpantay. Magpantay is the 1st ever Filipina to win the crown thus the second Asian for the prestigious event. Moreover she received $250, 000 dollars and a modeling contract from Ford Models.
