Ever had Ice candy before? To those who are clueless, Ice Candy is a type of frozen refreshment ideal to beat the heat of summer in the Philippines. The two common varieties of Ice Candy are fruits and Chocolate.
Almost any fruit can be used to make Ice Candy. Oranges, mango, and melon are among the most commonly used. However, there are creative individuals who went beyond the norm by creating the next level of fruit Ice Candies. Jack fruit and Durian Ice candies are just a few of them.
Here is a recipe that you can try to make your own ice candy.
Ingredients:
1. Ice Candy
for simpler flavors you can use any fruit drinks you have available: whether in powder or in concentrate
orange powder drink (prepare as indicated in the label)
strawberry flavor drink (prepare as indicated in the label)
chocolate milk flavor
Chocolate powder mixed with some milk, prepare as indicated in the label
2. Ice candy
for more creative flavor:
halo-halo flavor
one fourth cup of sago (tapioca)
1 tablespoon of dried raisins
half a cup of shredded coconut meat
1 sweetened banana (saba in preferance)
half a cup of melon strips
half a liter of coconut juice
one fourth cup of evaporated milk
5 tablespoons of sugar
Procedure:
For simple flavors after preparing your juices with the help of a funnel pour them on your ice-candy bags. Fill them half-way and close them by making a knot. Freeze for 24 hours.
For halo-halo flavors, mix everything in a big bowl. Taste the sweetness to determine if you want to add more or less sugar. Pour them with the help of your funnel on your ice-candy bags. Freeze them for at least 24 hours.
3. Ice Candy
for Ice-cream like Ice Candy
1 kilo of fruit (mango/langka/avocado/etc)
1 big can of condensed milk
half a cup of water
you can add some yabu or cassava flour (1 tablespoon)
Procedure:
Choose well ripe mangoes for this recipe. Scoop them and make a purée using your blender. Then dissolve your cassava flour and water and pour this on your mango purée. Add one can of condensed milk. Continue blending until well mix. Laddle this mango mixture in your ice-candy plastic bags and freeze.
