I always had this notion of soldiers living a solitary life. Go out to the field and fight for the country, that's the extent of what I know of them. But with the festive season in the air and the peaceful  breeze of Christmas engulfing us all, it's time to put the armories down, relax and be in a joyful mood to celebrate with family, even for our heroic soldiers.

The Basa Airbase at Clarkfield, Pampanga has a Christmas Village of their own. What used to be a park with retired military planes on display is now dressed up in lights and a festive Christmas atmosphere.

From December 10 to January 2, the Airforce Park in Clark will be a stage for seven different Belens, lanterns and interpretations of Chris

tmas by different units of the Basa Airbase. This tradition started in the mid 60s and is now one of the most looked forward event in Clark.

Participating units designed their interpretations with Giant eagles, actual bunkers, beautiful belens, lanterns and famous Philippine landscapes made of recycled materials.

Food wouldn't be a problem when you come visit. A number of food concessionaires that are manned by the families of the soldiers lined up in the park offering anything from grilled tilapias, assortment of barbecues and a lot more. There really is a festive spirit in the vicinity while getting to know the soldiers and mingling with them while sharing a table, dining on delicious food.

Make sure to check out this Christmas village, offering interactive displays, nightly shows, film viewing and food all offered and shared by our soldiers and their families.

To get there: There are regular bus rides to Dau, Pampanga. Once there, take a jeepney to Clark Airbase.

Park is open the whole day but it is best to be there at night to appreciate the event more with the colorful lights illuminating. Starts from 6pm onwards.
