MAKATI CITY - November 21, 2012 - Edward Ybanez and Jonrey Sasing of Team Cebu grabbed the very first Philippine Beach Volleyball National Championship title with a 15-12 match point score against Team ARMM Warriors from Tawi-Tawi at the second Philippine Hotel Reservations Service's (PHRS) Boracay Beach Volleyball Open (BBVO) held in Boracay from November 16-19, 2012.



Proudly endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Progressive Volleyball Center (PVC), Philippine Beach Volleyball Association (PBVA) and the Province of Aklan, the PHRS Boracay Beach Volleyball Open has been labeled to be the largest beach volleyball event in the country as the best players in the country gathered to play beach volleyball at its highest level and with fun division, everyone had a chance to play and be part of the event. The tournament consisted three (3) Divisions namely the Philippine Beach Volleyball Association (PBVA) National Championship (competitive), the San Miguel Fun Cup and the Mixed Quattro Fun Division making it open to both recreational and competitive volleyball aficionados.



"The 2nd PHRS Boracay Beach Volleyball Open became a catalyst for our next national team and a possible national beach volleyball tour. With the caliber of players who went this year, the spectators were able to witness Philippine beach volleyball played at its highest level," according to PSC Beach Volleyball consultant Eric Lecain. More than a thousand spectators and supporters converged to celebrate fitness and sustainable tourism on the beautiful island of Boracay.



Mikhail Marchenko and Ralph Kenneth Felices of Team Footzeez won the San Miguel Fun Cup Championship title while Team Top Gun settled for second place and Team Palassa ranked third. Team All About Sisig, composed of Mikhail Marchenko, Ralph Kenneth Felices, Hanz Alvarez and Sheena Mae Felices fought hard for the Mixed Quattro Fun Division Championship award as Team Palassa and Team Pasig placed second and third place respectively. Players from different parts of the nation, locals from Boracay and fun-loving tourists from as far as Germany, Russia, Spain and Canada participated in the fun divisions.



The PBVA Championship final game made spectators and fans sit at the edge of their chairs as Team Cebu and Team ARMM Warriors from Tawi-Tawi struggled ferociously for the PBVA title. Team Cebu winning the first set with a score of 20-16 and Team ARMM Warriors from Tawi-Tawi tried to get ahead of the game prevailing on the second set of the match. The exhilaration went on as the match point ended with a 15-12 score in favor of Team Cebu.



"Most of our players traveled far and wide to come to this exciting vent to covet the most prestigious award of becoming the National Champion of the largets open beach volleyball tournament in the Philippines. ARMM Warriors (Tawi-Tawi) and Team Cebu did not disappoint their coaches, fans and fellow players by showing us one of the best games ever played in the history of Philippine Beach Volleyball," said Lila Marques-Rosenberger, co-founder and CEO of the Philippine Hotel Reservations Service.



Travel vouchers, goodies and up to Php 100,000 worth of cash were given away as prizes to winners and participants. Team Cebu received Php 40,000-worth of cash prize while Halim Khan and Gabshar Tahilludin of Team Tawi-Tawi received Php 15,000 as PBVA second placers. Parley Tupaz and Arnel Amadeo from Team Iloilo ranked third place and received a cash prize of Php 5,000.



The San Miguel Fun Cup champions on the other hand received a total of Php 12,000 worth of prizes while second and third placers were given Php 6,000 and Php 3,000 worth of prizes respectively. Mixed Quattro Fun Cup champions obtained a total of Php 5,000 in cash aside from goodies and travel vouchers.
