The Leyte Gulf Landing Anniversary is a commemorative program which marks the landing on Leyte of the US Allied Forces of Liberation on october 20, 1944.



The celebration is held at the MacArthur Landing Memorial Shrine in Red Beach, Palo, Leyte which is also the site of the biggest naval battle in history.



Formal rites is usually graced by the President of the Philippines together with members of the Diplomatic Corps.



Special events are also held to enhance awareness and appreciation for the event’s significance.  This include a photo competition and exhibit, a regional inter-school essay writing competition, memorabilia showcase, among others.



In the area of the event, one can find the statues of the liberators built at a lagoon and 1.5 times bigger than lifesize. It is also the site of the Rock Garden of Peace.



A beautiful beach can also be found near the Park where the event is held.
