Palanan crafts are made of Sabutan (pandanus sabotan), a domesticated pandan grass found extensively in the mountain ranges of the Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park (NSMNP), the largest contiguous old growth forest in the Philippines.
This venture is being undertaken by Palanan women as alternative to the traditional timber enterprise which continuously threaten the sustainability and diversity of Palanan wilderness.
Through handicrafts making, the local folks hope to uplift their economic well being at the same time preserve the natural resources around them.
